Professeur associé at the University of Neuchâtel

Dr. Urs Staufer was nominated "professeur associé" at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Neuchâtel as of 1st October 2003. He will continue his research and teaching activities in Micro- and Nanotechnology.

Assistant Professor at the McGill University of Montreal/Canada

PD Dr. Roland Bennewitz will become Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics at McGill University of Montreal, Canada. He will start on January 1st, 2004, and has been nominated “Canada Research Chair in Experimental Nanomechanics”. In his new role Roland Bennewitz will continue his research activities in friction and wear at the atomic scale.

Head of new EMPA department

Prof. Hans-Josef Hug will become Head of the new EMPA (Eidgenössische Materialprüfungs- und Forschungsanstalt) department Surfaces, Coatings and Magnetism with effect of January 1st, 2004. Hans-Josef Hug is an expert in Scanning Force Microscopy and Magnetism. The nomination of Hans-Josef Hug demonstrates the ambition of EMPA and the University of Basel to enhance their collaboration in Research and Education.
