NCCR-Nano is running around

On May 10th, the 30th edition of the sola relay with more than 600 participating teams started in Zürich. The NCCR Nanoscale Science had also sponsored a team of NCCR members at the start: The NCCR NANOsteppers.

The aim of the NANOsteppers for this year was: having fun, running the 118km (with height differences up to 400m per stage) over 12 km/hr on average and finishing among the first 200 teams.

After a minor starting problem (the team was not yet 100% awake at 6 a.m. They left the start-runner in Basel, had to return to pick her up, and consequently, arrived around 5 minutes after the start signal ...) the team soon appeared to be in top shape! They did not restrict themselves to nanometer steps and were making huge leaps forward. In the end, the team needed a total of 9 hours, 22 minutes and 26 seconds. They had an average speed of 12.5 km/hr and ended at rank 137! Congratulations!
